Honesty is the Best Policy Story – The Honest Woodcutter

Honesty is the Best Policy Story – The Honest Woodcutter

Once upon a time, there lived a poor woodcutter named Ramu. He lived with his wife and two children in a small hut. Everyday Ramu would go in the forest and chop trees for wood. He would then sell the wood in the market and earn a meagre income to support his family. Though poor, Ramu was a very honest man.

One day, while Ramu was chopping wood in the forest, the axe slipped from his hand and fell into the river that flowed nearby. Ramu was very sad and worried, as he knew that he would not be able to replace the axe and would now have to find some other means of livelihood.

He prayed sincerly for his axe, and a goddess appeared from the river. She asked Ramu what he had lost and why he was so sad. Ramu told her everything.

Goddess, then went back into the river and came back with a silver axe, Ramu said that it wasn’t his axe. Goddess, once again went back into the river and this time came back with an golden axe, again Ramu said that it wasn’t his axe.

The Goddess smiled and pulled out his iron axe from the river and gave it to him. Ramu was delighted to get back his old axe and thanked the Goddess.

Goddess was very happy with Ramu’s honesty and rewarded him with the silver and the golden axe. Ramu was overwhelmed with happiness and went back home with his new found wealth.

Moral of the story: Honesty is always the best policy. It is better to lose something temporarily than to lose your honesty and integrity forever.

Meeting God

Meeting God

A little boy wanted to meet God. So, he packed his lunch with cake and some orange juice and set on his expedition with the hope to meet God.

After some time, he came across a park where he saw an old woman sitting on the bench. She looked upset. The kid went to him and offered her some cake. She smiled and the kid found her smile very beautiful. Therefore, he offered her juice too, only to see her smile again. Both of them felt so happy.

The kid came back home with a wide smile on his face. On being asked by his mother about his happiness, he answered, “Today I shared my lunch with God, she has the most beautiful smile.”

When the old lady reached home, her son asked, “Why are you so happy mother?” She replied, “I ate cake with God in the park. He is much younger than I expected.”

Moral of the Story: God is everywhere and becomes visible when you make others happy.

A Little Help From God

A Little Help From God

After a shipwreck, a man who was the lone survivor managed to reach the shore.

He asked God for help. After waiting too long for God to answer his prayers, he built himself a hut for his protection with sabotaged pieces of a shipwreck.

Few days passed by, each day he spent plenty of time looking for food and gazing at the horizon for God’s help.

One day, when he returned from his food search, he found his little hut burnt to ashes.

Losing all hope, he felt helpless and screamed in anger, “Why God? Why do you never answer my prayers?”

After a few hours, a ship reached the shore for his rescue. The man asked the captain, “How did you find me?” The captain replied, “We saw your smoke signal for help.”

The man’s faith in God’s will was restored.

Moral of the Story: Don’t lose hope because bad things are happening to you. God has his own way of working.

Two Feet

Two Feet

There was once a mountain climber who wanted to climb every mountain. Once he was climbing a mountain in the night. He couldn’t see anything and hence he slipped on a rock.

He kept falling down and down and realized he is going to die. But suddenly his safety rope caught him and he stopped falling. He stayed there dangling and praying to god.

Then he heard a voice calling his name. “I am God, son. If you believe that I can save you, cut the rope you are hanging to.” He looked down and all he saw was pitch black darkness so he didn’t cut the rope.

The next day he was found frozen to death by rescuers. But they saw he was hanging only two feet away from the ground. “Only if he had cut his rope, he would be safe and alive,” one of the rescuers said.

Moral of the Story: Always have faith in God, even if the path looks difficult.
